Lhasa covers an area of 30,000km,with a population of over 400,000,87% of which is Tibetan. With an elevation of 12,000feet, it is famed as "the highest city " in the world. And because of all-year round enough sunlight , it's known as "sunshine city". Tourists who have been here always marvel at magnificent Potala Palace and thousands of other Tibetan structures . Every day, many devout Buddhist believers have a pilgrimage walk around Jolkhang Monastery , with countless colorful prayer flags accompanying. Walking on the Barkhor Street, your eyes will be feasted by a great variety of wonderfully exquisite Tibetan souvenirs. Day 2: Chengdu / Lhasa |

Fly to Gonggar Airport. Enjoy a scenic drive along the highest river--Yalungtsampo ( one and a half hours) to Lhasa. Stop for photos at the Nethang Stone Buddha.
Arrive Lhasa.Check in the hotel for acclimatization.

See Potala Palace , Jolkhang Temple, Barkhor Street . Marvel at the magnificent architectural complex of the Potala. Absorb the contemplative atmosphere of the shrines of Jolkhang Temple. Enjoy walking tour on the Barkhor Street.

Day 4: Lhasa / Shigatse |

Depart Lhasa for Shigatse via Gyantse. We'll stop at the Tibetan Holy Lake--Yamdrok Yumtso and photogrph the fascinating Karuola Glacier . Arrive Gyantse. Explore the Palcho Monastery and Kumbun Stupa. Then continue the trip to Shigatse.

See Tashilunpo Monastery&Soul Tower of Panchen Lama.
Tashilunpo was built in 1447 by Ganden Drup. In the monastery is enshrined the biggest copper Buddha Statue ---Maitreya Buddha with 90 feet in height. Also see the Soul Tower of the 10th Panchen Lama. After lunch, explore the local free market and carpet manufacturer .Journey to the granary and cradle of Tibetans---Shannan. See Tibetan villages on the walking tour. Arrive Tsedang.

Explore monasteries of Yumbulakhang, Trandruk, Samye
Yumbulakhang,built by first Tibetan King--Nyatri Tsenpo, is the first palace in Tibet . Here we can get a bird's eye view of the Yarlung Valley.
Trandruk Temple , one of the first-built temples in Tibet, was constructed by Songtsengampo in the 7th century. It is exceptionally noted for one Tang Card on which the image of Goddess of Mercy was made up of 29026 pearls.
Depart Tsedang for Lhasa. We'll cross the highest river in the world--Yarlongtsampo by boat to visit the first Buddhist temple --Samye. This monastery was designed in the architectural styles of a mixture of Tibet, Han and India by the Indian Lotus-born master , according to the Buddhist astrology.

Day 7: Lhasa / Basumtso |

Depart Lhasa for Basumtso. We'll go through the Mila Pass , with 16500 feet above sea level , by driving . Basumtso is the famous sacred lake of Nyinma Sect of Lamaism. This lake looks like a pure bright moon set in the mountains and valleys, with the deepest part 198 feet. Explore Tsaxi Island in the middle of the lake. Visit by canoe Tsozong Gongba Monastery dating 1200 BC,on the island. Photograph the fantastic lover tree(consisting of a peach and a pine tree interlocked)nearby.

Depart Basumtso for Bayi. Bayi is a newly built town in Southwest of Tibet. It's the center of politics, economy and culture of Nyingchi Prefecture. Explore the Nyingchi Mill and enjoy a city tour in the afternoon.

Morning exploration of the Serkyimia Pass with an elevation of 14000 feet. Enjoy the awesome scenery of Mt.Namche Barwa. This is a good place for mountaineers. After lunch, explore the Cypress Forest in Bhaji village. Marvel at the living fossil---a 2500-year-old cypress with 165 feet high and 60 feet in girth. This tree has been regarded as "life tree" in Bonpo Lamaism, and it is frequented in worshipping by its believers.

Fly to Chengdu. Head for Guanghan. See the ninth wonder in the world---Sanxindui Archaeology Museum. This excellent museum features recently unearthed bronze work dating from 3000 B.C.. Journey back to Chengdu.
